Farmers Leap

Our Team

Scott Longbottom and Cheryl Merrett

As a third generation Longbottom to farm the Padthaway land, the limestone soils are in Scott’s blood.

Equally of the Limestone Coast, Cheryl was raised on a nearby property and has since worked in viticulture for more than 24 years.

After leaving school Scott returned to the family business to work alongside his father and brother farming onions, potatoes, small seeds and livestock. A chance meeting with Cheryl just as she completed a course in viticulture saw the two combine their experience to farm the land together, taking the leap to plant their first vines in 1993.

In 2004, Scott and Cheryl saw the flip side of their risk – the reward of their first vintage of Farmer’s Leap. Humbly enjoying the fruits of their labour with the tight-knit community of Padthaway, they have since shared these wines with the world.

As for the rest of their produce? Look for the Farmer’s Leap Produce label to enjoy Scott and Cheryl’s beef, lamb, onions or potatoes – naturally, best matched with a Farmer’s Leap Shiraz.

Renae Hirsch, Winemaker

Growing up with an inquisitive mind, an aptitude for science and surrounded by vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, Oenology at University of Adelaide was a natural fit for Renae.

With over a decade of Australian and international vintage experience, including time in Padthaway, Renae’s uncontrived winemaking style was the perfect fit for Farmer’s Leap.

Renae’s wines are genuine - made for every occasion.
